From such a young age there was something about fashion that always inspired me and made me feel alive! For me, there is nothing more alive that watching men and women strut the runway in new designs that a true artist has created from their own inspiration! There is so much beauty and excitement in that!
Before I left for Nashville fashion week I left you with a few sneak peaks of the outfits I’d be taking on my trip. Sadly, due to weather being very cold and a few changes, a lot of the pieces that I loved the most I didn’t get a chance to wear. But as promised, I wanted to give you a recap of my experience!
During my time there I attended two learning lab workshops and a runway fashion show! I took part in a hands on makeup tutorial workshop at The Cosmetic Market that walked us through looks from runway to real life. It was such a fun time getting my hands in makeup and trying new things!
I also got to attend a workshop that centered on navigating the world of blogging and influencer marketing. Mary Lawless Lee from @happilygrey and Rachel Zeilic from Clique Media shared with us their experiences in the influencer world along with golden nuggets of inspiration!
Lastly, one of my favorites parts of the week was the runway show! The show I attended showcased 10 emerging designers with their latest design creations and let me tell you the pieces on the runway did not disappoint!
I walked away with so many thoughts and emotions from my week! It took my eight hour drive home to process it all and here is what really stuck with from the week.
1. Surround yourself with the right people.
The kind of people that are going to support you, believe in you and encourage you in whatever journey you are on. At our Influencer Marketing workshop, mega blogger, Mary from @happilygray, said it best,
“You will only be as good as the people you surround yourself with.”
Oh how true this is! I may not have an army but I’m oh so thankful for the handful that always stand next to me, believing in my dreams! Those are the ones I want to always keep close!
2. Don’t be afraid to ask.
Oh man do I struggle at this one! The fashion/blogging world can be so intimidating. It’s easy to feel like everyone is so far superior to you that the would never want to work with you or better yet be your friend but most of the time that’s just not true. Each time I get a little braver to step out on a limp and ask I’m always so thankful I did!
3. You can do it too; right where you are, with what you’ve already got, in your own unique way. There’s room for your gift at the table!
I don’t have to look like everyone else. I don’t have to dress like everyone else. I don’t have to take the same route or journey as everyone else. I don’t have to live in a big city or buy expensive things or have the VIP ticket to be successful. There’s space for my talents in this world! There’s space for your talents too!
